A Compact but Full Summer

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

The youth summer calendar is available here.  With so many counselors and students participating in missions, family travels, and taking time to refresh, we have a compact schedule.

Special teams of youths will participate with YouthWorks Lynn Mission team in urban MA and Hopi Mission Team in the Southwest USA.

Summer Sundays include opportunities to serve with the children ministry, to rest, to review and discuss videos in a SS block, and to worship in Jr Worship or English Worship.

ALIVEs will be focused on three sessions in the mid-summer July 23, July 30 and Aug 6.  Some discipleship groups will take place according to various counselors.

Awesome Time with God                                         Jane Lo
Spending time with God is like a mealtime during which God feeds you with His spiritual food. How would you describe your time with God: a chore to check off from your ‘to-do’ list or another draining religious ritual that is filled with yawning? Come to explore ways to feast on God’s words and to learn how to build a vibrant relationship with Him.

Q& A  - on Christian Living, Faith & Ethics           Pastor Dave

Tackle some questions that may include areas of evolution, science, creation, uniqueness of Bible, Christ, eternity, heaven, death, post-Christianity, agnosticism, same-sex marriage, stem-cell research…   Please SUBMIT YOUR QUESTIONS immediately – earlier submissions will be given priority.

Family Talk                                            Karin Hsieh & Jon Tang

HELP! I can’t handle this anymore.  I just can’t stand my parents anymore.  They won’t listen to me.  Why do we have to do our homework all the time?  Why do we always have to do chores?  Why do you always have to listen to our parents?  How come we can’t have things our way?  In this workshop, we will deal with different scenarios between the kids and the parents and how to negotiate with your parents.

College 101                                          Petek Altug & Terry Yang

College is a great adventure, where new and exciting experiences, academic and extracurricular, await you away from the watchful eye of your parents and the rigid structure of high school life. Yet college can also be a time of great anxiety and personal risk. Are you prepared to deal with the temptations and pitfalls of college life so that you can come out the other side a stronger person ready to tackle the life God has placed in front of you?  Are you prepared to seek to understand, engage and love your fellow college classmates who might shock you from their diverse ethnic, socio-economic, sexual, religious, and lifestyle backgrounds they come from?

This interactive workshop will cover the joys and difficulties of college life, with a particular emphasis on tips to make the most of your college experience, looking from logistical, emotional and faith perspectives.

Becoming God’s Man    (BOYS ONLY)    John Lo & Jay Huang

This workshop is based on the book “Every Young Man, God’s Man” by Stephen Arterburn and Kenny Luck.  We will discuss topics that may include: getting unstuck in spiritual walk, facing the truth about yourself, managing the dark side within, knowing who your friends really are, the power of total honesty, overcoming sin on a daily basis, dealing with major family and personal traumas, and keeping the motivation to be God’s man even when it hurts.

Asian Fail                                                       Pastor Sandy Liu

You bring home with a report card with 4 As and a dreaded B+!  Is it a success or an Asian fail?  Our Asian culture undoubtedly promotes super-achievement in education, family, music, career and pursuit of the American dream.  How can we best cope with the “model minority” stereotype and perfectionism in a manner that Scripture defines “success” and refreshes our lives with a healthier expectations?
