NO ALIVE tonight 2/16… packing for retreat

Friday, February 16th, 2007

There is no Sr high ALIVE tonight as we are packing up to depart for Camp Maranatha Saturday morning. Please come to church at 7:30am for bus loading. When you arrive at church, guys should check-in with Jon Tang, and girls should check-in with Stacey Wei. Put all your bags on deck for loading and offer to help. Space is tight so it’ll have to stack up nicely. Make sure your stuff is labeled. Senior’s belongings need to be tagged for “GRACE” with strip of masking tape.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what the Lord has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Cor 2:9

See you there!

Defending Your Faith
By Terry Yang
Have you ever tried to evangelize a friend, only to be asked a question you didn’t know the answer to and then walked away embarrassed? Are you reluctant to evangelize because you’re afraid a non-Christian will be able to out debate you? This workshop will provide an opportunity to work through some difficult questions about the Christian faith, and present some perspectives on how the lens non-Christians look through impacts the approach to evangelism. Your own questions are encouraged, so bring them with you!

Kingdom Conversations: Talking About Jesus

By Pastor Sandy Liu

Do you desire to share the hope of Christ with your unbelieving family and friends, but just can’t find the right words to start? Does what you say sound weird to even you? Does your evangelistic method come across as a threatening ultimatum, a condescending monologue, a prideful argument, or a high-pressured sales pitch? Come discuss why, what, and how to talk about Jesus. This workshop is not focused on techniques and formulas. Rather, we will focus having spiritual dialogues that may lead people to faith.

Evolution Vs. Creation
By Kevin Yiu

Can a Christian believe in Evolution? Is Evolution totally unbiblical? Is there any evidence for Creation? Is Genesis a literal account of creation? In this workshop, we will discuss the relationship between Evolution and Creation. We will examine biblical and scientific arguments for each side of this debate.

The Survival Guide of Overachieving High School Students
By Angela Lee & Wen Sailer

Does this sound familiar? You have hours upon hours of homework to do for all the difficult classes you’re enrolled in (5 APs!), extracurricular activities scheduled every single day of the week (sports! music! clubs!), deadlines constantly hanging over your head (3 tests, 2 papers, and a performance, all on one day!), and there just doesn’t seem to be enough time to do it all. You find yourself wishing that there were more than 24 hours in a day so that you can do it all and still have a life and get enough sleep.

How can you do it all and be the best at everything you do so that you can get into the college of your dreams?! The answer may be that you can’t do it all and something has to give. (If you could do it, you wouldn’t need this workshop!) Come learn the difference between what’s urgent and what’s important and how to prioritize your life in a way that is honoring and pleasing to God.

The World Wide Web: Today’s Wild West
By Jason Lee

It’s hard to imagine what life would be like today without the Internet. We take the Net for granted as we do cell phones and cable tv. It has become part of our lives that we use for information, communication, and even social interaction. Can you imagine not being able to look up the latest sport scores, not being able to send email, or keeping up with what people are up to without MySpace or Facebook? The Internet has become crucial to the way we live and is here to stay. But what do we need to be aware of when it comes to its use? We can think of the Web as the Wild West of the past. It was full of excitement and promise, but also a place of lawlessness and danger where anything goes. Come join the discussion about how we as Christians can use the Internet for all it has to offer while staying safe and not compromising our faith.

Plunge of Faith @ ALIVE 2/2

Thursday, February 1st, 2007

Everyone has to wrestle with fears, doubts and faith throughout life. How do we know that airplane is safe to fly? How do we know we should trust an authority to know better than our own feelings and opinions? How do we know that Jesus Christ is supreme? Faith doesn’t always have to be blind. It can also be reasonable. Come to ALIVE this week! And hand in retreat registration forms ASAP!
