Rules for ESL classes

Revised on 24 July 2017

  1. We follow the calendar of the Lexington public school system with one exception.  We close whenever the public schools close.  At the discretion of individual teachers, classes may be closed between Christmas and Chinese New Year.
  2. Each class should elect or appoint a "servant" who will assist the teacher to handle administrative chores, including taking class attendance, distributing notices, etc.
  3. Each student should prepare his/her own name tag and put on the table during the class.
  4. Students should notify their teachers in advance if they will be absent from the class.
  5. Teachers should try to contact the students who have missed more than two consecutive sessions without prior notice.
  6. Teachers, at their own discretion, may install an award system to encourage students to study diligently.
  7. Students are required to register online before the semester begins; Walk-in students are allowed at the discretion of the teacher.
  8. Students are required to purchase textbooks assigned by the teachers.
  9. Students are expected to do homework.
  10. Teachers of all levels need to describe their classes in terms of objectives, prerequisites, content of teaching, degree of difficulty, etc.  These descriptions will help students and teachers to find the most matched level of class.
  11. In case of medical emergency, the teacher should call 911 and the designated contact person.
